Project Details
Name of Project:
35W Bridge
Reconstruction
Location:
Minneapolis, MN
Scope of Work:
Utility Installation
On August 1st, 2007
the I-35W Bridge a
major artery for
traffic in the
metropolitan Twin
Cities, fell into
the Mississippi
River during the
evening rush hour.
Tragically, 13
people were killed
and 100’s more were
injured.
The bridge carried
more than 140,000
vehicles a day. And,
the loss of the
bridge costs the
City of Minneapolis
$400K everyday. It
is for both those
reasons that the
rebuilding of the
bridge is on an
accelerated time
schedule. The bridge
is projected to be
complete by late
December 2008.
As a women owned
small business,
Meyer Contracting
has been
privileged to be a
part of the
rebuilding process.
The bridge will be
two lanes wider than
the former bridge,
therefore requiring
the movement of
underground
utilities in
downtown
Minneapolis. Meyer
Contracting will be
performing all
utility relocation
work and the
installing a storm
retention system
called: Ecostorm.
Meyer Contracting
has also been asked
to install a box
culvert for a
pedestrian tunnel
under the bridge.
The box culvert will
be the biggest in
the State of
Minnesota. |
