Name of Project:
Midtown Exchange
Location:
Minneapolis, MN
Scope of Work: Urban
Drainage Systems;
Water & Sewer Main
Installation
The Midtown Exchange
Development was a
$190 million
mixed-use
redevelopment of the
formerly vacated
Sears Roebuck
Building, on the
south side of
Minneapolis. This
project was a
culmination of over
ten years of efforts
by private & public
sector leaders,
government officials
and neighborhood
groups to revitalize
the once vital
intersection of Lake
Street and Chicago
Avenue. The new
development entails
a mixed-use urban
hub of housing,
retail, restaurants,
offices and a hotel.
Meyer Contracting
<homepage link>., a
member of the
Disadvantaged
Business Enterprise
(DBE) program,
installed a 1.2 acre
underground storage
pond and retainage
system - a new storm
sewer technology
that essentially
eliminates storm
run-off from the
proposed site. At
the time of the
project
this was the largest
underground system
of its kind in the
Twin Cities Metro.
Meyer Contracting
also installed all
utilities for the
renovated building.
A large amount of
unanticipated
removals of
contaminated soils
were discovered and
resolved during this
project.
The project was
multi faceted, with
many contractors
working at the same
time in an extremely
small area.
Organization,
effective
communication and
coordination with
multiple contractors
were absolutely
vital to the success
of this job.
Throughout all of
this Meyer
Contracting exceeded
project deadlines.
