Name of Project: BF
Nelson Park
Location:
Minneapolis, MN
Scope of Work: Soil
Remediation and Site
Development
Funded from a
$200,000 grant,
awarded to the
Minneapolis Park and
Recreation Board,
from the Economic
Public Association??
(EPA), the BF Nelson
location was one of
the last
underdeveloped
locations along the
Mississippi river in
the Twin Cities
metro area. The
twelve acre property
located near
downtown Minneapolis
was formerly a home
to a lumber milling
and manufacturing
company. In the mid
1970’s the buildings
were demolished and
the site was
purchased by MNDot
for a proposed
freeway. The freeway
never happened and
in 1986 Minneapolis
Parks and Recreation
purchased the land.
Twenty years later,
tests on the site
revealed the
presence of semi
volatile organic
compounds,
polynuclear aromatic
hydrocarbons and
heavy metals in the
soil.
Meyer Contracting
performed all site
remediation of
contaminated soils
to make way for the
new park. |
