Project Details
Name of Project:
Lake of the Isles
Location:
Minneapolis, MN
Scope of Work:
Shoreline
Restoration
Lake of the Isles is
famous for it's
skyline views,
beautiful turn of
the century mansions
and recreational
opportunities on the
south end of
Minneapolis. This
chain of lakes
receives over 5.5
million visitors in
any given year. With
just under three
acres of shoreline,
the Lake of the
Isles has
experienced harmful
deterioration not
originally
anticipated when the
lake was engineered
in the early 20th
century. The Minneapolis Park
and Recreation Board
committed $3.2
million for
improvements to the
water quality,
eroding shorelines,
and improving
recreational
facilities &
pathways.
The first step in
improving the Lake
of the Isles was to
address the
shorelines.
Meyer Contracting
was asked to
stabilize the 7500
linear foot of
shoreline in the
fall. The
work consisted of
site removals,
remediation of
existing shoreline,
fiber coir roll
installation and
plantings. It was
absolutely essential
that minimal
disruption occurred
to eco-life and the
natural habitats.
Meyer Contracting
ensured that extreme
caution was given to
the sensitivity of
the project. |
